Week of
the white rose

Over the past 10 years, the sale of virtual white roses and donations received during the Week of the White Rose has raised nearly $300,000. Specifically, in 2023 the money raised helped to fund a number of activities for Folie Technique, a not-for-profit scientific organization at Polytechnique Montréal that offers science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities for young people, including:

  • The participation of 89 young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in a week-long science camp;
  • Science workshops for 1,657 pupils, almost half of them girls, who attend elementary schools in poorer communities;
  • The participation of 140 young girls in all-girl groups at Folie Technique summer camps.

On the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of December 6, 1989, Polytechnique Montréal presented the very first edition of the Week of the White Rose. This annual fundraiser, to benefit Polytechnique Montréal’s science camp, Folie Technique, is aimed at giving girls from disadvantaged communities the opportunity to take part in science awareness activities, through the sale of virtual white roses.
